At FirstCare, we believe that community participation yields positive outcomes for our service users as valued participants in the community. Our FirstCare community participation support team takes time to discuss your interests and the leisure activities you want to be involved in and works with you to create an individualised plan of social and recreational activities in your community. Our community participation program aims to encourage sustainable independence for our service users.

Offering opportunities to participate in community-based programs and activities. Providing information services to ensure our service users have the opportunity to make informed decisions and maximise choice and working together to initiate and maintain meaningful community relations.

At FirstCare we promote community participation and inclusion to assist our service users to fully participate in activities of their choice, in their chosen community. Our service users are supported to develop the skills they need, to work towards their goals such as paid employment, further education, participation in community-based programs and community activities.

Our service users are supported in:

  • maintaining and developing life skills to increase their independence
  • continuing learning and participating in meaningful leisure, recreational, social and cultural activities
  • having active and valued roles in the local community through participation and inclusion
  • expanding friendships and support networks
  • providing fair access to supports for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
